Former Vice Chancellor of Bhopal’s Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV) Dr Sunil Kumar has got bail from the High Court on charges of financial irregularities. Justice Vishal Dhagat has granted bail to the former Vice-Chancellor on the condition that he does not leave the country. Senior Advocate Manish Dutt and Advocate Siddharth K Sharma argued on behalf of the petitioner. It is worth noting that Bhopal Police was registered a case of financial irregularities and fraud on April 5 against four people including former RGPV Vice Chancellor Dr Sunil Kumar Gupta. After the case was registered, he resigned from his post and sought refuge in Bhopal District Court for anticipatory bail. The District Court rejected the application for anticipatory bail. Bhopal Police arrested him from Chhattisgarh and presented him before the court on April 11. Since then he was in judicial custody.

The petitioner Dr Gupta was accused of transferring Rs 19.48 crore to private accounts and fraudulently creating four FDs of Rs 25 crore. He had sought refuge in the High Court for bail. It was argued on his behalf that the University Working Council had taken the decision on all assets as per the recommendation of the Finance Department. There has been no cash transaction in the entire case. The amount has been transferred through the bank. The single bench has granted the benefit of conditional bail to the former Vice Chancellor. As per the prescribed conditions, he will cooperate in the investigation and will appear when called by the investigating officer. He will not leave the country and will not influence the witnesses in any way. Senior Advocate Manish Dutt and advocate Siddharth K Sharma argued on behalf of the petitioner.
