In a significant development, tiger movements were detected along the Kaliyasot River in the State capital. The Forest Department has discovered tracks indicating the presence of both an adult tiger and a cub. The forest officials are actively conducting searches and matching the footprints to identify the specific tigers involved and to determine if the cub tracks belong to new offspring. According to the reports, Forest Ranger Lakhanlal Ingle mentioned that efforts are underway to match the footprints to specific tigers or tigresses. Additionally, the department is investigating whether the smaller footprints are from already known cubs or if they indicate the presence of new ones. The movement was observed at night, after which the tigers moved towards the Chandanpura forest area. Search operations continued into the morning, with the Forest Department maintaining continuous surveillance. Further reports indicate that tiger footprints have also been found in the Chandanpura region of Bhopal.
Tiger Friend Rashid Noor emphasised the urgency of closing the Chandanpura road to prevent potential conflicts between tigers and humans. He warned that if the cubs are new, there is a heightened risk of encounters between tigers and people. Noor noted that tiger movements have been consistent in Chandanpura for the past two months. He stressed the importance of restricting morning and evening walks in the area to avoid incidents similar to those in Raisen. He urged the district administration to take this issue seriously and to prohibit pedestrian traffic in the affected regions. Reportedly, the Forest Department’s ongoing monitoring and the suggested preventive measures aim to ensure the safety of both the tigers and the local population. Notably, this is not the first time that tiger movement has been witnessed in the said area. Last month, in April 2024, tiger activity was recorded outside a private university located in the Chandanpura area.
A video captured by people travelling in cars showed a tiger roaming and eventually crossing the road towards the forest. Earlier, following the tiger movements, Bagh Mitra also accused the department of negligence. Tiger friend Rashid Noor, stated that despite the presence of many tigers in Chandanpura, wedding parties continue to be organised in club-restaurants in the area. He emphasised that such activities are detrimental to wild animals, including tigers.
Noor highlighted that there have been complaints regarding these events, advocating for the closure of the animal club-restaurants to protect the local wildlife.
