Friday proved a hard time for the passengers at the Rani Kamalapati Railway Station as the news of alleged bomb threat in Jhelum Express (11077) led to a situation of fear and stampede at the station. Senior Commandant of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Prashant Yadav said that a passenger in the sleeper coach (S9) of the train informed the Ticket Collector (TC) that there is a bomb in the train. On hearing the news, a situation of panic and rush emerged at the station and the higher officials were informed of the incident. Acting upon the information, the standard procedure was followed and the Government Railway Police (GRP), carried out a search operation at the platform number 3 (the platform at which the train arrived) and at the station.

The Senior Commandant informed that during the operation, nothing was found and the information of bomb in the station was declared fake. After the search, the passenger who gave the information was arrested by the police. “The person comes from a southern state,” Yadav said. As per some information, it was also suspected that the accused was either confused or mentally unsound, though the police is further probing into the matter. “The RPF is engrossed in ensuring the safety of passengers and constantly organises various drives in order to ensure the same,” the senior commandant said.
