Advocate Samyak Jain, Manan Agrawal and Dheeraj Tiwari wrote a letter to Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court Justice Ravi Malimath urging him to take suo motu cognizance of alleged murder/death of on-duty Assistant Sub-Inspector by a tractor belonging to sand mafia and requested inquiry/action against the government officials who collude with the perpetrators and failed to curb illegal mining in Shahdol. The letter, written by young advocates Samyak Jain, Manan Agrawal and Dheeraj Tiwari claimed that, the incidents of illegal sand mining are rampant across Madhya Pradesh. Last November, a tragic incident unfolded in Shahdol, where a Revenue Department official, Prasann Singh, lost his life. Allegedly belonging to the sand mafia, a tractor crushed him to death while he attempted to halt a truck carrying illegally mined sand near son River. A case related to the said incident has again come to light where an Assistant Sub Inspector Mahendra Bagri was allegedly crushed to death by a tractor of sand mafia in Shahdol District.

It has also alleged in the letter that it has become fashion to crush the officer who prevent illegal mining in Shahdol District, the competent authority i.e. (Mining Department) after receiving frequent complaints about illegal mining operation and transportation in Shahdol District, failed to curb such activities, which prima facie suggests that the authorities are hand in gloves with each other in turning a blind eye to this illegality. They stated in their letter that the officers responsible for administration of mineral conservation and development have misused their official capacity.
The advocates, apart from seeking court directions to stop the rampant illegal mining, also sought action against the government officials who collude with perpetrators.
