BHEL delivers largest-ever spherical valve for Arun-3 Hydroelectric Project in Nepal

In a monumental achievement, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has successfully manufactured and tested the largest-ever spherical main inlet valve, weighing an impressive 213 tons, for the Arun-3 4x225 MW Hydroelectric Power Plant in Nepal. The milestone was marked with a formal handover ceremony on Monday, attended by key dignitaries including S.M. Ramanathan, Executive Director of BHEL Bhopal, V.S. Rao, General Manager of the Hydro Department, along with Manoj Nilamwar and Sanjeev Saxena, both Additional General Managers from the GJB division, alongside the dedicated employees of the Hydro Group.
 
According to the reports, Arun 3 is a hydro-electric project under construction on the Arun River in Sankhuwasabha District of Province 1, Nepal. The project is of 900 megawatts capacity and will be the largest hydropower plant in South Asia. SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company (SAPDC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of India’s Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN), is developing the project on a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) basis. Reportedly, SVJN is a joint-venture between the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh. The electro mechanical contractor of this project is BHEL.
