West Central Railway (WCR) has proposed to fence more than 500 kms rail track sidings from Itarsi- Manikpur route for uninterrupted operation of trains upto 160 kms/hour. The metal fencing along with railway tracks is essential to avert unauthorised trespassing while it will also check incidents of animals run-over on tracks. WCR General Manager Shobhna Bandopadhyay, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’, informed that they have sent a proposal two days back to the Railway Board for materialising metal fencing project alongside the railway track between Itarsi-Manikpur section. Once they get green signal, the project will be materialised on war footing under the head of Mission Raftar Project.

“Metal fencing along with railway tracks is one of the essential parts of Mission Raftar Project. It will check trespassing incidents and cattle run-over while it will also ensure protection of rail property. The project help will be able to accelerate semi-high speed trains upto 160-kms/hour while operation of mail and express trains will also become hassle-free,” WCR GM Bandopadhyay added. The WCR GM informed that along with installing of metal fencing, several other technical upgradations on rail tracks will be taken place for increasing the speed of trains upto 16-kms/hour. It may be noted that West Central Railway has already completed around 70 percent works of metal fencing of around 872-kms of total 1090-kms up and down tracks on 545-kms Nagda – Mathura rail block under Kota division.
