The Tehsil Police on Monday arrested Dinesh Bajranglal Malu (44) on the charges of evidence tampering. Dinesh is the husband of Ritu Malu (39), who had mowed down two youngsters on Ram Jhula while driving a Mercedes car under the influence of liquor on February 24. After arresting Dinesh Malu, the police presented him before the court and sought his custody to aid in the search for Ritu.

 

The police also alleged his involvement in tampering with evidence. However, the court rejected the plea for police custody and granted Dinesh bail. It may be mentioned here that Ritu alias Ritika Malu, a resident of Deshpande Lay-out was booked by the police for driving the Mercedes under the influence of liquor and causing the deaths of two youngsters, Mohd Hussain Gulam Mustafa (34), a resident of Naal Sahab Square, Mominpura, and his friend Mohd Atif Mohd Jiya (32), residing in Jafar Nagar, on the night of February 24. After the accident, Ritika and her companion Madhuri Shishir Sarda (37), a resident of Wardhaman Nagar, fled the scene. However, the two women later surrendered themselves to the police and admitted their involvement in the incident. Tehsil Police had registered a case under Sections 279, 338, and 304 (a) of the Indian Penal Code, along with Section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act. Ritu Malu is still at large and the police are actively searching for her.
