GUWAHATI :
IN RESPONSE to the ongoing
flood situation in Barak Valley
in Assam, an additional team
from the first Battalion of the
National Disaster Response
Force (NDRF) has been
deployed to the region.
The team was airlifted from
Guwahati’sLokpriyaGopinath
Bordoloi International (LGBI)
Airport to Silchar Airportinthe
Cachar district of Assam.
This deployment is in additionto theNDRF teamalready
stationed in the region.
The proactive measures are
intended to provide immediate assistance and support to
manage and mitigate the
effects ofthe flooding inBarak
Valley. The first battalion of
NDRF is undertaking regular
flood rescue operations in the
State.
It has been assisting the
district and State administrationintheflood-affectedareas.
The first Battalion of the
National Disaster Response
Force (NDRF) is located in
Patgaon,Guwahati,Assam.The
NDRFisamulti-agencyorganisationthatispartoftheIndian
Armed Forces and is responsible for responding to natural
and man-made disasters.
The floods in Assam in the
aftermath of Cyclone Remal
have so far claimed eight lives
ofsixpeopleincludingtwochildren died in the last 24 hours.
ThefloodsituationinAssam
is still grim as nearly 3.50 lakh
people, including over 78,000
childrenfrom11districts,have
been affected by the deluge.
The NDRF, SDRF,Police, Fire
and Emergency Services
(F&ES) and local administrationareengagedinrescueoperations in many flood-hit areas
and on Friday the teams rescued 615 people.
Earlier on Friday, one such
rescue operation was held in
Kandhulimari and Baliram
Pathar villages in Doboka and
Hojai, where a total of 149 persons were rescued.
