After a wait of 5 years finally Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) got approval for 500-bedded independent hospital in its premises. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari performed bhoomipujan of the same. Now, the hospital has sought Rs 131 crore more funds for its expansion. IGGMCH had prepared first proposal in 2019 during Fadnavis government but it had some deficiencies which were removed later. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis pushed the proposal which got sanctioned. It will surely add to the healthcare facilities at IGGMCH in a big way. The initial sanction was for G+6 building. But in a recently held meeting chaired by Devendra Fadnavis, Government sanctioned Rs 507 crore for both tertiary care hospitals. Dean Dr Ravi Chavan, who was present in the meeting, pushed for five more floors in IGGMCH.
Revealing the plans while talking to ‘The Hitavada’, Dr Chavan said, “We are short of beds, so we want to increase them. The added beds will not only help us in accommodating more patients but also our case will become stronger when it comes to demanding increased Post Graduation seats. Per five beds, we can get a PG student. Secondly, we are proposing Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy College of 50 seats. This will add value to our plan of setting up of World class Wellness or Rehabilitation centre.” IGGMCH has burn ward but it is lying unused because of which its medical team faces difficulty while treating burn patients. Considering this aspect, Dr Chavan has asked Government to provide Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy set-up. “Once we get this set up we can treat wounds and other medical conditions by supplying patients with 100% oxygen inside a special chamber. It heals damaged tissue by helping patient’s body grow new skin, blood vessels and connective tissues. We have planned to have burn ward in this new building,” Dr Chavan made it clear.
IGGMCH has also planned one complete floor to accomodate neurologists and neurosurgeons. “Number of nurses is very much lacking due to which hospital faces problems of proper healthdcare to patients. We have demanded 300 plus nurses,” said Dr Chavan. Respiratory Intermediate Care Unit, geriatric ward of 30 beds and other departments too will function in the new building. This proposal has given due importance to department of skin and psychiatry too which will have one unit each initially. IGGMCH has updated its Outpatient Department (OPD) with advanced systems. It has been digitalised for which the hospital procured over 170 computers. This has made the OPD registration work faster and people don’t have to wait much.
