After much delay, two of the three charging stations of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) for e-buses are nearing completion as same would help in cutting down emissions and improve the air quality in city.
Meanwhile, civic officials took stock of new measures that are needed to be done for improvement in air quality. The meeting held on Thursday was chaired by Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr Abhijeet Chaudhari took stock of action plan that needs to be chalked out as the civic body gets funds from Central and State Government for mitigation measures to combat air pollution.
The officers deliberated on new policies that can be adopted for ensuring that the air that citizens breathe is not polluted.
Commissioner was briefed about the measures recommended by CSIR-NEERI to combat air pollution and work done so far by the civic body. He directed Garden, Public Works, Transport, Health, Solid Waste Management and others departments to prepare fresh proposals for programmes that can be undertaken by NMC for improvement of air quality.
The officials informed Commissioner that various works to improve air quality in city are under progress while other proposals would get under way very soon.
As part of air quality improvement programme, NMC is going to induct 144 e-buses and work on Hingna and Lakadganj charging depot are almost complete while work at Wadi station is under way.
To increase the green cover NMC's has undertaken plantation of saplings at campus of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University. Also work on adding green pastures at SBI Colony and at Patankar Square and in Indora are under way. Similarly, air pollution abatement system are also being installed at Gangabai, Mokshadham and Manewada ghats. Besides new crematoriums are being constructed at Jaitala and Friends colony while work at Chinchbhuvan is nearing completion, informed the Project Division.
