NMC files 2 FIRs against open plot owners for overgrown vegetation, stagnant water
Staff Reporter :
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has taken a major step to address public health concerns by lodging FIRs against two property owners whose plots have been deemed health hazards due to overgrown vegetation and stagnant water.
The FIRs were filed at Hudkeshwar Police Station and Yashodhara Nagar Police Station on behalf of the NMC.
The first FIR targets Raju Akhaduji Dhande, owner of plots 73 and 74 in Dhande Layout, Mauja Hudkeshwar under Hanuman Nagar Zone. According to Dr Gajendra Mahalle, Head of NMC’s Solid Waste Department, the plot has accumulated a large amount of bushes, grass, and stagnant rainwater which creates a breeding ground for mosquitoes and poses a risk of insect-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria.
Despite receiving a notice on August 8, Dhande has not taken action to address the issue.
Similarly, FIRs have been lodged against Lakshmi Gaur and Suresh Bagde, owners of plots 28, 21, and 22 in Ma Bamleshwari Nagar, Pahune Layout under Ashi Nagar Zone.
These plots have also been found to have extensive overgrowth and water accumulation, which could lead to similar health risks for nearby residents. The cases were registered under Sections 271, 272 of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita.
