IN A heart-breaking incident on Independence Day, a 23-year-old youth named Aakash Chakole drowned while performing stunts at the Makardhokada dam and reservoir near Umrer. The incident which was recorded on camera by friends making a video, unfolded in front of a large crowd. Aakash, a resident of Bhopal Nagar, Kalamna, had gone on a picnic to celebrate the day with a group of friends at the dam on the Amb river. During their time there, three of them attempted to climb the wall of a shed that channels water from the lake.

 

While two of them fell during the attempt, Aakash managed to succeed but lost his balance while standing on the edge and tragically fell backward into the lake. Despite the efforts of those nearby who tried to help, the rescue attempts proved unsuccessful. Divers and Umrer Police later recovered Aakash’s body, which was sent for post-mortem. Umrer Police registered the case as an accidental death and initiated an investigation into the incident.
