SUMITRA Mahajan, former
Lok Sabha speaker on
Saturday said that every
elected member came to the
Parliament to make and discuss the national policies.
Therefore, every political party should accord top priority to the issues of national
interest instead of wasting
time on straying away from
policy matters, she stressed.
Mahajan made this statement during a press conference at Ahilya Mandir in
Dhantoli. She is in the city
for mega play ‘Matoshri’
based on life of Ahilyabai
Holkar, to be staged on Sunday at Suresh Bhat Auditorium
in Reshimbag. Mahajan has written the script.
“Indiscipline and ruckus by MPs are not new in the
Parliament. It was common during our time also. But
now it has increased which should be curbed for smooth
conduct of the House,” said Mahajan “Every member in the
Parliament comes to make
policies.
They should study
the subject first and then
make statement in the house.
However, in recent times,
members create ruckus and
avoid discussing the policies
in the Parliament,” said the
former Lok Sabha Speaker.
While talking about good
governance, Mahajan said,
“Ahilyabai Holkar and
Chhattrapati Shivaji Maharaj
were the ‘idol’ of good and
transparent governance and
every government should
adopt it for a better governance in their state or in
country.”
People of some states are
just aware about the work
and reforms of Ahilyabai
Holkar, whereas it should be
known by every citizen of this
country.The objective behind
conducting the play
‘Matoshri’ is to spread awareness about the work done by
Ahilyabai Holkar and it will
be held in all over the country, said Mahajan. Former
Rajya Sabha MP Dr Vikas
Mahatme was also present.
