IN A controversial decision, the
City Police, on Tuesday, suspended four police personnel,
including two women constables, for dancing in uniform at
the Tehsil Police Station premises. The incident, which
occurred after the
Independence Day flag hoisting ceremony, involved the four
cops performing to the popular Bollywood song ‘Khaike
Paan Banaraswala...’ in police
uniform. Those suspended
include ASI Sanjay Patankar,
HC Abdul Qayyum Ghani,WPC
Bhagyashree Giri, and WPC
Nirmala Gawli.
The suspension comes as a response to the
video of the dance going viral
across the country, sparking
widespread criticism.
Commissioner of Police Dr
Ravinder Singal taking the matter seriously, directed the
Deputy Commissioner of
Police to issue the suspension
orders. He stated that the
actions of the officers had tarnished the image of the police
force, which is expected to
maintain discipline at all times.
The suspension is set for
three months, during which
the officers will receive a subsistence allowance. They have
been instructed to surrender
their uniforms and identity
cards pending the outcome of
a departmental inquiry.
Despite the controversy, the
In-charge of Tehsil Police
Station has been cleared of any
wrongdoing, though it is noted that he allegedly attempted to defend the actions of the
four police personnel.
This incident has raised
questions about the balance
between maintaining discipline and allowing moments of
celebration within the police
force, with citizens divided on
the severity of the response.
