BHILAI,
Parents created a ruckus at Delhi Public School (DPS), Risali on Friday morning alleging that a 5-year-old girl was sexually abused at the school.
The parents demanded strict action against the perpetrator accusing the school management of attempting to protect the culprit. After several hours of chaos, the parents calmed down following assurances from the school management and the police.
According to reports a large number of parents, predominantly women, gathered in front of Bhilai Niwas and marched to Delhi Public School (DPS), Risali, on Friday morning. Upon arrival, they found the school’s main gate locked by the management and police. The parents, demanding to speak with the Principal, were eventually allowed inside after insisting on entering as a group.
Inside the auditorium, parents expressed their outrage over a recent incident, accusing the Principal of concealing the truth. Despite the Principal’s claims, supported by police investigations and CCTV footage, that there was no evidence of wrongdoing, the parents were not convinced and their anger escalated. The Newai police station in-charge had to step in to manage the situation.
Concerns about
child safety were raised, prompting the Principal to promise the installation of CCTVs in classrooms and key areas. However, the assurances did little to pacify the parents, and the Principal remained under police protection throughout the confrontation.
The protest began on the alleged sexual abuse of a 5-year-old girl at DPS Maroda Primary School on July 5 which was reported by the media. After about two-and-a-
half hours, Additional
Superintendent of Police Sukhnandan Rathore tried to calm the crowd.
The Principal’s claim that a high-ranking official had pressurized him to admit two students via WhatsApp on April 4, threatening severe consequences for non-compliance and suggesting that the protest was orchestrated to tarnish the school’s reputation, only fuelled further suspicion. The situation intensified with parents shouting slogans of “We want justice” During the meeting, Principal Vashisht reiterated the denial of any sexual abuse, backed by the police investigation. This denial only further enraged the parents, who accused the police of conspiring with the school management. The parents demanded that the matter be investigated by an officer of SDM level rank. Questions arose regarding the absence of the alleged victim’s parents, who had previously sought justice from the police and district education officer, and the suspension and subsequent disappearance of a school attendant. The Principal’s inability to provide clear answers suggested a potential cover-up by the school, alleged the parents. The chaos lasted for several hours before the parents were eventually calmed by assurances from both the school management and the police.

A misinterpretation of medical reports led to the rumours resulting in widespread chaos. After a thorough investigation, the police confirmed the incident was solely the result of rumours, stated Jitendra Shukla, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Durg, during a press conference.
This statement followed a demonstration by numerous parents demanding the safety of school children and justice for the student at DPS, Bhilai.
SP Shukla explained that the student in question had been diagnosed with a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) by a competent doctor. However, the prescription went viral on social media, sparking chaos due to misinterpretation and rumours.
The police delved into every detail of the case, consulting experts and investigating the role of the principal, headmistress, class teacher, and attendants, while also analysing CCTV footage to establish the facts.
The police warned that they will take strict action against anyone spreading false information or rumours that harm the student’s dignity and the institution’s integrity. The court may also intervene in such cases. SP Shukla assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted again if any new substantial evidence arises.
