THE Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)Nagpurbranch office recently conducted an eventcalled“ManakManthan” on the new Indian Standard for fibre cement sheet lightweight cement sandwich panels IS 17908:2023. The event saw theparticipationofaround 20 experts from various fields, includingreputedlaboratories, academia, architects, manufacturers, andindustry associations. Rauak Sukhadeve, Scientist-C/Deputy Director, gave thewelcome address and delivered a detailed presentation on the topic.

 

Sukhadeve emphasized the importance of engaging with diverse stakeholders to develop standards that are not only technologically advanced but also aligned with the current industry needs. His session sparked an insightful discussion, leading to thecollection of severalpertinent comments and suggestions from the participants, which will contribute to a robust and refined standard. In addition to the main discussion, the participants were briefed on several new standards developed in the field of CivilEngineeringDepartment (CED).

 

The gathering also received an enthusiastic response from theparticipants regarding enhanced participation in BIS standard formulation activities. All members expressed excitement about contributing to the formulation and updating of Indian Standards.
