THE Young Men’s Christian Association’s (YMCA) Robertson Badminton Hall, situated near the Museum in Civil Lines, will have a new look from now onwards.
The work of laying synthetic courts is nearing completion and the courts will be ready for training and competitions in a few days.
The courts badly needed renovation and YMCA decided to replace the wooden courts with synthetic.
Earlier since 1985, there were cement courts which were later converted into wooden courts in 2008.
With finance being the major hurdle, YMCA decided to seek help from members who generously loosened their purse strings for the cause.
“There were some badminton enthusiast members and donors also who came forward and contributed handsomely,” informed Niraj Singh, Secretary, YMCA while talking with ‘The Hitavada’.
The badminton hall will have four new synthetic courts which will help shuttlers train on a better surface.
“The total cost of laying the synthetic court was around Rs 10 lakh. We (YMCA) contributed Rs two lakh. The shortage of funds was filled by donors and members. I really appreciate their help,” said Singh.
“The work of laying the synthetic courts was entrusted to Meerut-based firm Tugania from Uttar Pradesh,” Singh informed.
Apart from synthetic courts, lighting at the hall will also be upgraded.
Several members including Sachin Khemuka, Aniruddh Khemuka, Kamlakar Motghare, Rakesh Goenka, Sunil Sangtani, Manish Agrawal, Manoj Jain, Prakash Agrawal, Bablu Kala, Raju Kala, Sachin Agne, YMCA official Gitesh Jambhulkar are taking efforts for early completion of the work.
