TWO workers were killed and
seven injured seriously after a
boiler exploded at Shreeji
Blocks Company, a cement
brick manufacturing plant, in
Zullar village in Mauda Police
Station area early Tuesday
morning.
The blast, which occurred
around 3.30 am, was so forceful that it propelled tin roofs of
nearby houses and caused
major damage. The shockwave
from the explosion also led to
the death of several goats tied
in the courtyards of local
homes.
Nandkishore Ramakrishna
Karande (40), a crane operator
and a resident of Zullar village,
died at the scene, and
Brahmanand Manegurde (45),
from Rana Mangali village succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Nagpur later in the day.
The injured workers—
Surendra Umap, Krishna
Vibhute, Gunwant Gajbhiye,
VanshWankhede, Kalu Umeda
Shahu, Syed Hussain, Kuwarlal
Gunaji Bhagat, Swapnil Narayan Sonkar, and
Gunwant Daulat Gajbhiye—
are currently receiving medical treatment for severe
injuries sustained in the
explosion.
The company, which has
been operating at survey no
101/2 in Zullar, employs
around 50 workers. The blast
resulted from a technical malfunction within the plant,
which occurred late Monday
night and into Tuesday
morning. The explosion
caused a stampede among
the night shift workers, many
of whom were frantically
attempting to escape the dangerous situation.
Also, the blast severely
damaged company infrastructure, including breaking
several pipelines. The impact
also extended to the surrounding area, with major
property damage and loss of
livestock. The police have
launched an investigation
into the incident to identify
the cause of the explosion.
