TWO workers were killed and seven injured seriously after a boiler exploded at Shreeji Blocks Company, a cement brick manufacturing plant, in Zullar village in Mauda Police Station area early Tuesday morning. The blast, which occurred around 3.30 am, was so forceful that it propelled tin roofs of nearby houses and caused major damage. The shockwave from the explosion also led to the death of several goats tied in the courtyards of local homes. Nandkishore Ramakrishna Karande (40), a crane operator and a resident of Zullar village, died at the scene, and Brahmanand Manegurde (45), from Rana Mangali village succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Nagpur later in the day. The company, which has been operating at survey no 101/2 in Zullar, employs around 50 workers. The blast resulted from a technical malfunction within the plant, which occurred late Monday night and into Tuesday morning. The explosion caused a stampede among the night shift workers, many of whom were frantically attempting to escape the dangerous situation. Also, the blast severely damaged company infrastructure, including breaking several pipelines. The impact also extended to the surrounding area, with major property damage and loss of livestock. The police have launched an investigation into the incident to identify the cause of the explosion.
