Heavy rains lash city n CICR observatory reported 82.5 mm rainfall while Sonegaon observatory recorded19.1 mm rainfall on Thursday

After a long gap, heavy rains battered Nagpur city on Thursday evening, inundating low-lying areas and causing traffic jams and power cuts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted moderate rains in all over Vidarbha including Nagpur district on Friday.
Due to heavy rain, water logging were observed at many places in city including, Antuji Nagar, Bhandewadi, Hiwari Nagar, Wardhaman Nagar, Hudkeshwar, Kalamna and many more. The heavy rain was accompanied with lightning and thunderstorm. Due to water logging at major junctions of the city traffic jam was observed. Power cut was also observed at many places and the linemen were busy in restoring electricity at different areas.
Due to a cyclonic circulation the rain was expected in Vidarbha and other parts of the Maharashtra. In last 48 hours many parts of the state witnessed heavy to very heavy rains whereas the widespread rain knocked the doors of Vidarbha on Thursday afternoon.
Weather Department predicted more light to moderate rains on September 27 as well in some parts of Vidarbha. On Thursday, the Automatic Weather Station installed at CICR on Wardha Road recorded 82.5 mm rainfall whereas the Sonegaon based observatory reported only 19.1 mm rains till 8.30 pm on Thursday in Nagpur.
Wardha recorded the second highest rainfall with 52 mm followed by Amravati 22 mm,
Yavatmal 12 mm, Chandrapur 10 mm, Bramhapuri and Gondia 2 mm each.
In last 36 hours, Wardha (52 mm), Amravati (30.2 mm), Chandrapur (24 mm), Nagpur (20.4 mm, Sonegaon), Akola (18.1 mm), and Gondia (12 mm) recorded rains in double digit.
In overall scenario, Buldhana, Gadchiroli, Wardha and Yavatmal districts received excess monsoon rains till the start of Southwest Monsoon this year. As a whole, Vidarbha received 1076.7 mm actual rainfall till date against 926.7 mm of normal rains. Yavatmal received the highest 29% above normal rainfall till date which was the highest in Vidarbha. Yavatmal received 1030 mm actual rainfall till September 26. Wardha received the second highest rainfall in this monsoon with 27% above normal rains. Gadchiroli is third with 26% above normal rains followed by Buldhana (22%). Nagpur received 8% above normal rainfall so far.
This year, Bhandara (1196.3 mm), Chandrapur (1218.5 mm), Gadchiroli (1605.8 mm), Gondia (1282.4 mm), Nagpur (1002.6 mm), Wardha (1050.3 mm) and Yavatmal (1030 mm) have crossed the actual rainfall in four digits.
