The sleeper coach bus of Abha Travels was ferrying around 45 passengers from Prayagraj to Nagpur via Rewa
Most of the passengers were from Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra
Nine innocent lives, including a 2-year-old boy, were lost and around 20 were injured when a speeding bus rammed into a parked Hywa in Maihar in Satna district in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
The incident took place when a 53-seater sleeper coach bus of Abha Travels (UP-72 AT-4952) ferrying around 45 passengers from Prayagraj to Nagpur via Rewa. Bus was passing through Chourasia Dhaba in Satna when it was rammed into a Hywa (CG-04 NB-6786) which was parked at side of the highway. Satna Superintendent of Police, Sudhir Agrawal informed that in the mishap, the bus was completely damaged and the injured passengers were badly stuck into the bus. Learning about the incident, Maihar Police along with rescue team reached the spot but faced difficulty in rescuing the passengers due to damaged bus.
Passengers were rescued from the bus by cutting its doors with gas cutters and JCB machine.
The rescue operation continued till 2 am on Sunday and nine of the injured died and around 20 passengers are undergoing treatment at the hospital. The deceased have been identified as Lallu alias Lal Singh Yadav (60), son of Ramavtar Yadav of Pratapgarh in UP, Vishwaprakash Pandey of Raniganj in UP, Pranjal Vishwakarma of Pratapgarh in UP, Ambika Prasad (5), son of Motilal of Jaunpur in UP, Devansh alias Ganesh Sahu (2), son of Rajesh Sahu of Nagpur in Maharashtra, Ramnaresh Gautam of Jaunpur in UP, Ramesh of Jainpur in UP, Vishwanath of Jaunpur in UP and Dheeraj Kumar Shukla. Besides, Ajay Kumar Gupta (21) of Garh in Rewa, Praveen Kumar Shrivas of Nagpur, Pramod Kumar Shrivas of Nagpur, Abdul Rakib of Pratapgarh, Sufiyan of Pratapgarh, Sarita Yadav (32), wife of Pradeep Kumar Yadav of Badlapur, Maharashtra, Nagina Sahu (45) wife of Umashankar Sahu of Bibipur in UP, Shivshankar (27) son of Gaya Prasad of Allahabad in UP, Rekha Gupta (40), wife of Santosh Gupta of Jaunpur in UP, Priyanshi Gupta (7), daughter of Santosh Gupta of Sambhalganj in UP, Kanhaiyyalal (65), son of Ramdev of Jaunpur, Rajesh Kumar Sahu of Jaunpur, Arvi Sahu (5) and Arushi Sahu (7), daughters of Rajesh Kumar Sahu, of Jaunpur.
Chief Minister expresses grief
Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has expressed grief over the untimely death of passengers in a road accident in Maihar district. Expressing condolences, the Chief Minister said that the news of the untimely demise of the passengers is very sad and heart-rending. The death of 9 passengers has been confirmed in this horrific road accident, while one is in a very critical condition. Most of the passengers are from Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Chief Minister Dr Yadav prayed for the peace of the departed souls and speedy recovery of the injured. He said that in this hour of grief, the State Government stands with the bereaved families.
The district administration has been directed
for proper treatment of the injured.
Financial assistance will be provided to the families of the deceased by the government as per rules. It is noteworthy that this accident happened due to a powerful collision between a truck and a passenger bus of Uttar Pradesh in Maihar district.
