■ Staff Reporter :
THOUGH the Government
Medical College and Hospital
(GMCH) and Indira Gandhi
Government Medical College
and Hospital (IGGMCH) have
not received all the funds sanctioned for various projects,
Public Works Department
(PWD) has completed 90%
work of the majority projects
in both these hospitals. Deputy
Chief Minister and Nagpur’s
Guardian Minister Devendra
Fadnavis had himself sanctioned about Rs 800 crore for
both these hospitals a year ago.
With the addition of some more
works now, the cost has
increased to over Rs 1,400 crore.
These works together will give
a new look, provide new facilities, advanced equipment to
both these big hospitals.
GMCH was supposed to get
Rs 550 crore while the total cost
involved in IGGMCH projects
was Rs 302 crore. The proposal of GMCH includes the
amount to be spent for the
development of Super Specialty
Hospital (SSH). GMCH has
proposed a spacious hostel for
400 girls and another hostel of
250 rooms for resident doctors.
The cost involved in these two
hostels is over Rs 100 crore. The
hostel of resident doctors is
almost ready. Girls hostel will
take a little time. The girls hostel is planned as number of girl
students have increased in
recent past. GMCH has 20
rooms under paying ward.
But people getting admitted
in GMCH ask for paying
ward. Considering that aspect,
GMCH is mulling increasing
those wards to 80 for which
expenditure of Rs 45.60 crore
has been proposed.
Around 80% work of skywalk,
that joins trauma centre with
the OPD and casualty, has been
completed. The total area of
GMCH is 232 acre which has a huge wall. Around 80% work
of the wall has been completed. Rs 9.18 crore have
been proposed for the construction of the wall.
“The
work has already sped up and
we expect that it would be
inaugurated soon,” asserted
Dr Raj Gajbhiye, Dean of
GMCH.
In IGGMCH, the main
building of ground plus six
storey housing dean chamber, offices of various heads
of the departments, library,
laboratory, lecture halls, cafeteria is almost ready.
Government has given Rs
60.25 crore of the total sanctioned amount Rs 77.64
crore. 80% work of the shaded walk, three floors of hostel for resident doctors, 6th
and 7th floor of hostel building for boys is almost done,
informed Dr Ravi Chauhan,
Dean of IGGMCH.
With the initiative of
Dr Makrand Vyawahare,
Head of the Department of
Forensic Medicine,
the upgradation of mortuary building in
IGGMCH was proposed.
100% work of the mortuary
has been completed.
Secondly, IGGMCH was
facing the issue of waiting by
patients at Outpatient
Department (OPD). Dr Ravi
Chauhan had come up with
an idea of token system
under which people don’t
need to stand in the queue.
They would provide the
name and get the token at
the counter. After receipt of
the token, they can wait for
their turn at the waiting room
near the counter. This system is ready and likely to be
inaugurated by Deputy Chief
Minister and Guardian
Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
There is a separate medicine unit of 500 beds for
which Rs 199.4 crore have
been proposed. Rs 45.50
crore for 250-bedded hospital (surgical complex), Rs
21.95 crore for admin building. IGGMCH is constructing RMO hostel worth Rs
30.93 crore, boys hostel of Rs
20.20 crore.
“Both deans have freedom
as far as receipt of funds is
concerned. There will be no
obstacle of Haffkine Institute.
Everything will come from
Government and respective
Deans will have the powers.
We are providing funds time
to time from District Planning
Committee as and when
required as per the instructions from Guardian Minister
Devendra Fadnavis,” District
Collector DrVipin Itankar has
made it clear.
