Around 50 to 60 vehicles suffered punctured tires in a shocking incident occurred around 10 pm near Wanoja village in Washim district on the Samruddhi Expressway, the other day. A metal sheet fell on the Nagpur-bound lane, causing 50 to 60 vehicles to puncture their tires as they drove over it.
As per reports, the shocking incident occurred around 10 pm near Wanoja village in Washim district on the Samruddhi Expressway, where the metal sheet fell off from the truck trailer (NL-01/AE-7143)on the highway causing around 50 to 60 vehicles tires to puncture. Stranded passengers reportedly received no immediate assistance, leading to significant inconvenience.
Upon receiving this information, the highway police stationed at Karanja and Malegaon immediately rushed to the site to investigate.
The metal sheet was moved aside, and traffic resumed within 10 minutes.
Additionally, a Hydra crane was summoned from the Malegaon Toll Plaza to safely remove the metal sheet, completing the task within half an hour. The highway police promptly moved the affected vehicles to one side of the road, ensuring the safety of passengers, including women and men, by relocating them to a secure spot. Water was arranged for their convenience, and local garages in Malegaon were contacted to assist in replacing the punctured tires.The trailer involved was handed over to the Jaualka Police Station for further action.
In the past, incidents of looting by deliberately puncturing tires with nails have also been reported. This raises serious concerns about the safety and security measures on the expressway.
The recurring incidents have sparked demands from commuters for stricter security and preventive measures on the expressway.
