The Army Marathon, organised by the Sudarshan Chakra Corps of the Indian Army, is set to take place under the guidance of Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Vishwas Kailash Sarang. In a meeting with officials from private and government universities, encouraged maximum participation from students, faculty, and residents. Emphasising fitness and unity, the Sarang called on Bhopal’s citizens to run for a ‘Clean India, Green India, and Fit India’. The marathon, celebrating Army Day on January 15, pays homage to the Indian Army and marks the historic appointment of General K M Cariappa as the first Commander-in-Chief in the year 1949. The event will be held in three categories 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km starting and ending at
Dronachal, with the route covering VIP Road. A minimal registration fee is required, and participants will receive T-shirts and certificates. Institutions and universities will also be awarded certificates and mementoes for their involvement.
The event offers cash prizes worth Rs 10 lakh, with Rs 5.3 lakh allocated to winners of the half marathon, Rs 2.64 lakh for the 10 km category, and Rs 1.87 lakh for the 5 km category. Minister Sarang highlighted the importance of the Army in national security, encouraging public respect and support for soldiers. “The Army Marathon symbolises endurance, determination, and victory while promoting fitness, patriotism, and unity,” he said. He urged university officials to promote the event on social media and called for community-wide participation to make the marathon a historic celebration. Major General Sumit Kabthiyaal praised the State Government’s support and noted that the marathon aims to foster a culture of fitness, health awareness, and community spirit.
He emphasised the unique route through Dronachal, which offers a glimpse into military history and honours the sacrifices of martyrs. The event has already garnered significant interest, with 600 NCC cadets registered. Families and friends are encouraged to join, making it an inclusive and inspiring experience. The Army Marathon Bhopal 2025 is the first sporting event under the HQ West MP Sub Area and aligns with the Government of India’s Fit India Movement. Brigadier S S Chillar, Colonel Vishal Ahuja, Colonel Rajesh Nayak, Joint Director B S Yadav, and other dignitaries attended the planning meeting. With around 12,000 participants expected, the event promises to be a landmark addition to Bhopal’s annual sports calendar, celebrating fitness, patriotism, and unity while honouring the Indian Army’s legacy.
