Due to activation of a new western disturbance and a change in wind patterns, weather conditions in the State including Jabalpur are expected to deteriorate from Sunday. A warning has been issued for thunderstorms, rain in two dozen districts on Sunday. While the temperature is likely to rise over the next two days, dense fog will prevail. From January 13, another round of severe cold is expected as temperatures will drop again.
Cold wave conditions and cold days are anticipated for 12 to 15 days in January.
In Jabalpur, the minimum temperature is expected to be around 9°C, with light fog in the morning. Spokesman of weather department informed that dense fog is expected in many districts, while rain with cloudy skies is expected in districts of Jabalpur, Gwalior, Chambal and Narmadapuram divisions. Spokesman said a brief respite from the severe cold is expected for the next two days. Rain alerts have been issued for 34 districts, including Jabalpur and Jabalpur, on Sunday. Hailstorm is possible in Narmadapuram, Shivpuri, Guna, Ashoknagar, Harda, Betul and Burhanpur. He further informed that the alert for rain and hailstorm is issued due to western disturbance. Although there will be a rise in day and night temperatures during this period, the cold will intensify once the system moves away, with a significant temperature drop from January 13. In recent days, icy winds have led to extreme cold in the city, with night-time temperatures plummeted much below to the normal.
This cold spell has temporarily eased. However, as snow melts in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Ladakh, the cold effect will intensify, accompanied by an increase in wind speed.
