A devastating incident unfolded on Saturday afternoon when the centering of an eight-storey under-construction building, Avinash Elegance, on VIP Road in Raipur collapsed, resulting in the death of two labourers and injuries to six others. Among the injured, two are reported to be in critical condition and are currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
The incident occurred while labourers were working on the top floor of the structure, installing centering and iron stands for concrete casting. Suddenly, the centering gave way, trapping several workers under the debris. The tragedy took place at a construction site within the Telibandha police station limits.
Upon receiving the information, Raipur Collector Gaurav Kumar Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr Lal Umed Singh immediately rushed to the scene. Rescue teams worked tirelessly to extricate the injured from the rubble. The deceased were identified as construction workers, while the injured were quickly transported to a nearby hospital.
“Strict action will be taken against those responsible for the negligence. Worker safety is paramount, and such lapses cannot be tolerated,” said SSP Dr Lal Umed Singh while addressing the media at the accident site.
Collector Gaurav Kumar Singh assured that the district administration is investigating the incident thoroughly.
“The debris removal process is ongoing, and we will ensure accountability. The injured are receiving the best possible medical care,” he stated. The accident has raised serious questions about safety protocols at construction sites. Authorities have initiated a comprehensive inquiry into the collapse, with district officials and the Raipur Municipal Corporation pledging preventive measures to avoid such tragedies in the future.
