Underlining the importance of visionary writers, Dr Abhay Bang, renowned social activist, on Tuesday stated that the writers must have a vision to see in the future. “Their future thinking would shape the society,” he stated. Dr Bang was speaking as Chief guest at the Vidarbha Sahitya Sangh’s (VSS) distribution of the Literature Award 2025 function at VSS Hall on Tuesday.

The programme began with the lighting of the traditional lamp by the dignitaries. The dignitaries on the dais were Pradeep Date, President, VSS, Chief Guest Prof Avinash Awalgaokar, Vice Chancellor, Marathi Language University; Dr Abhay Bang, Social Activist; and Justice Vikas Sirpurkar (Retd) and Trustee of VSS. Dr Bang emphasised on the fact that literature writers are visionary, with a sense of futuristic hints in their work. “20,000 Leagues under the sea written by Jules Verne is one of the examples of visionary works. Vernes's prediction of the cylindrical vehicle in his novel turned out to be true, as America unveiled its first submarine after 90 years and named it after Vernes's work, calling it Nautilus, said Bang. Justice Sirpurkar followed the speech by congratulating the winners and appreciating the fact that VSS recognises the literaries and appreciates their work. Similarly, speaking at the event, Prof Awalgaokar said, “Vidarbha has always been very important in the history of literature in Maharashtra. A writer is never judged on his awards but by his impact on the society by his literary works”.

He advised that this generation still needs the guiding works of the historic literary writers, as without reading about the history, the future can't take its shape. Radha Tengdi performed a song, and Rajendra Dolke gave the introductory speech. Praful Shiledar proposed the vote of thanks, and Vrushali Deshpande and Vivek Aloni conducted the proceedings of the programme.
