Vice-President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar honoured the students who achieved academic excellence in undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma examinations for the academic years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 during the 11th convocation ceremony in Guru Ghasidas Central University (GGCU) here on Wednesday. Governor of Chhattisgarh Ramen Deka, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, National Secretary of Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, New Delhi Atul Kothari and Chairman of AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) Professor TG Sitharam graced the occasion as distinguished guests. The Vice-President also planted saplings in memory of his late mother Kesari Devi at the university premises. Additionally, research scholars who qualified for their PhD degrees between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2024 were also awarded.
 
The convocation conferred PhD degrees on 122 research scholars and gold-plated medals on 157 students. The medals included University Medals, Chancellor’s Medals, University Medals and Donor Medals. In lines with Indian cultural heritage, the convocation featured traditional attire. To highlight the local culture of Chhattisgarh, special emphasis was placed on the use of Kosa fabric. Separate attire was designated for the dignitaries in the ceremonial procession, gold medalists and PhD awardees. Addressing the gathering Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar congratulated all the students and wished them for their future endeavour.
 
He said that the significant achievement of the students were proof of their hard work, dedication and academic excellence. He said that universities are more than just institutions. Universities are the custodians of our knowledge, collectiveness and culture. There are places where history is preserved and literature analysed with connecting students to diverse fields of thought and enriching ideas about humanity. The education policy of the Government represents a vision and aims to equip the youths with skills and knowledge to move ahead in an increasingly dynamic world. For Chhattisgarh, this policy brings a wave of progressive reforms and is set to have a profound impact on our educational institutions.
 
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai told that the curriculum run in the university should not only be dynamic and responsive to emerging trends and technologies but should also include the rich heritage of Indian tradition to contribute to the overall development of our state and nation. India has always been a world leader in the field of knowledge and we have to strive to bring universities back to that reputation. The education policy has been formulated keeping in mind the future scenario. He said that the university has grown rapidly opening opportunities for growth and advancement in higher education as well as the legal field. Vice-Chancellor Alok Kumar Chakrawal presented the annual report of the university. Dignitaries including Governor Ramen Deka, Union Minister Tokhan Sahu, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, MLAs Amar Agarwal, Dharamlal Kaushik, Dharamjit Singh and Sushant Shukla, Chairman of District Panchayat Arun Singh Chauhan, Divisional Commissioner Mahadev Kavre, Inspector General of Police Dr Sanjeev Shukla, District Collector Awanish Sharan, Superintendent of Police Rajnesh Singh, professors, lecturers, students besides others were present on the occasion.
