Administrator appointed on 13 Panchayat Samitis also in the district
Government appoints Administrators at Washim and Akola ZPs also as well as Panchayat Samitis in respective districts
As the term of the elected body in Nagpur Zilla Parishad (ZP) comes to an end on January 17, Government of Maharashtra has issued an order asking the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to act as Administrator. Similarly, the respective Block Development Officers (BDOs) of 13 Panchayat Samitis in Nagpur district will act as Administrators once the term of the elected body comes to an end on January 17.
Rural Development Department of Maharashtra Government issued an order in this regard on Wednesday in this regard.
The order covers six ZPs in the State namely Nagpur, Washim, and Akola from Vidarbha, and Nandurbar, Dhule, and Palghar from other parts of Maharashtra. The term of Washim, Akola, Nandurbar, and Dhule ZPs comes to an end on January 16 (Thursday), that of Nagpur ZP on January 17, and the term of elected body in Palghar ZP will come to an end on February 17.
Vivek Mahamuni, CEO of Nagpur ZP, confirmed the development. “The order will come into effect in Nagpur ZP and 13 Panchayat Samitis from the
evening of January 17. The elected representatives will have to surrender their official residences, official vehicles allotted to them, and the official staff,” he told ‘The Hitavada’. Nagpur ZP has total 13 Panchayat Samitis under it.
These include Nagpur (Rural), Katol, Kamptee, Ramtek, Hingna, Kuhi, Narkhed, Umred, Saoner, Kalmeshwar, Parseoni, Bhiwapur and Mouda. Washim has six Panchayat Samitis namely Washim, Malegaon, Risod, Karanja, Manora, and Mangrulpir. Akola district has seven Panchayat Samitis including Akola, Akot, Balapur, Barshitakli, Murtijapur, Patur, and Telhara. The term of all Panchayat Samitis in Nagpur district comes to an end on Thursday, and that of the Panchayat Samitis in Washim and Akola district came to an end on Wednesday. The State Election Commission, in its letters dated February 4, 2022 and December 18, 2024, stated that it was not possible to conduct the elections to ZP and Panchayat Samitis within the stipulated time-frame and urged the State Government to appoint Administrators on the abovementioned six ZPs and respective Panchayat Samitis.
Accordingly, the State Government authorised the CEOs of respective ZP and BDOs of respective Panchayat Samitis ‘to exercise all the powers and perform all the duties’ of the respective bodies. They will continue to act as Administrators till the election of President, Vice-President and chairpersons of subject committees of the six ZPs, and Chairman, Deputy Chairman, and chairpersons of the committees of the respective Panchayat Samitis.
