Detained on December 31 by Dhantoli Police after receiving intelligence about a possible attack, a youth was murdered by his rivals on Wednesday. Since his release the next day, the cops were ‘protecting’ him for the last one month.
After losing his father during Diwali, the youth was involved in frequent quarrels with the accused as he was suspecting their involvement in his father’s death.
The deceased was identified as Karan alias Lucky Rajesh Naynewkar (21), a resident of Takiya Dhantoli, Zenda Chowk.
The accused have been identified as Kunal Raut, Kunal’s wife, Kunal’s maternal uncle Rupesh, and Yogesh Kowe.
According to police, Karan was living with his mother Kanchan (45) and younger brothers Himanshu (18) and Sachin (14). Since his father’s death, Karan had suspected involvement of the accused persons, and frequently quarreled with them.
On Tuesday night, after dinner, Karan got into an argument with Yogesh Kowe on the ground near the
Gymkhana Club. During the quarrel, Kunal, his wife, and uncle arrived at the scene. Himanshu also rushed to the spot and tried to intervene. However, the accused began attacking Karan. They stabbed him mercilessly and even struck him on the head with bricks.
They also attempted to attack Himanshu and his friend. Himanshu and his friend fled the scene. Upon their return, they found Karan lying in a pool of blood with stab wounds to his stomach. They rushed Karan to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Offences of murder and common intention under the BNS were registered by Dhantoli Police against the accused persons. Further investigations are on.
