Strict action against littering: BMC officials to ensure spot fines, waste segregation

Municipal Commissioner Harendra Narayan conducted an inspection of cleanliness arrangements across various areas of the city to further improve the sanitation system according to the standards set by the Swachh Survekshan. During the inspection, both in person and through video conferencing, he directed that strict action, including spot fines, be taken against those found littering or dumping debris, which contributes to the spread of filth in the city. Narayan emphasised the need to remove waste from green areas, side verges, central verges, and dividers, and ensure cleanliness by clearing soil and debris to maintain a hygienic environment. He also issued instructions to ensure 100% implementation of waste segregation practices in the city.
 
On Wednesday, Narayan inspected areas such as Link Road No. 02, Mata Mandir, Aradhna Nagar, Government Housing Kotra, P&T, Nehru Nagar Road, Bhadbhada, Neelbad Road, Kerwa Road, and Suraj Nagar. He provided further instructions to improve cleanliness, and emphasized the continuous monitoring of people who are littering and ensuring strict enforcement of spot fines. The Commissioner set a target to ensure that spot fines should not be less than 90% of the designated target. He also instructed that waste, debris, and dust be removed from green areas and various verges to improve cleanliness. Additionally, he emphasised the importance of 100% segregation of wet and dry waste. Narayan also directed that the second shift be involved in waste collection and that ward nodal officers inspect these areas. Further, he instructed for better cleanliness along Link Road No. 03, P&T, Nehru Nagar Road, Bhadbhada, and Suraj Nagar Road. Narayan inspected the Bhadbhada Dam and took stock of the water levels of the Upper Lake, acquiring details regarding water supply through the summer and from other water sources.
