Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State In-charge Nitin Nabin has accused former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel of using a tribal leader as a pawn in the liquor scam involving the previous Congress government. Referring to the arrest of former Excise Minister Kawasi Lakhma, Nabin claimed that while Lakhma appears to be directly involved, the true mastermind remains at large. He expressed confidence that the law will eventually apprehend the primary culprit, stating, “The mastermind will not be spared at all.”
Speaking to journalists at Raipur airport on Thursday, Nabin criticized Baghel for allegedly exploiting a tribal leader in the scam, asserting that this reflects the former Chief Minister’s attitude toward tribal communities.
He stated, “the way Bhupesh Baghel has committed the liquor scam by making a tribal a pawn clearly reveals his mindset towards tribals. No accused in the liquor scam will escape justice, no matter their position.”
Nabin dismissed Baghel’s allegations of political vendetta by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), pointing out the liquor scam, reportedly worth Rs 2,000 crores, came to light during the Bhupesh government’s tenure and questioned why no action
was taken during his five years in power. “Baghel had local investigation agencies at his disposal, yet he failed to act. Now that concrete evidence is available, action is being taken against those involved,” Nabin remarked. On the election process for the BJP’s state president, Nitin Nabin stated that elections have been conducted from the booth level to the national level within the BJP organization. Following the completion of the nomination process on Thursday evening, the announcement of the new state president and state council for Chhattisgarh is expected on January 17.
