West Central Railway (WCR) has achieved outstanding milestones in 2024 across various categories, including originating revenue, freight loading, infrastructure commissioning, laying of new lines, doubling and tripling of tracks, scrap sales and ensuring safety through the integration of advanced technology.
During the year, Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 17 major projects worth approximately Rs 4,870 crore under WCR. Besides this, initiatives such as “One Station One Product” stalls were introduced to promote local products, and “Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras” were established at stations to provide affordable and generic medicines.
These efforts highlight WCR’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure, supporting local economies, and improving passenger services while maintaining operational excellence and safety standards.
West Central Railway (WCR) achieved significant milestones in 2024, including the commissioning of 181 km of infrastructure, focusing on the systematic expansion of its network.
Freight loading increased to 55 million tons, a 2% growth compared to 54 million tons in 2023. Originating revenue reached Rs 8,241.22 crore, reflecting a strong performance supported by customer-centric initiatives and effective policy-making by Business Development Units.
WCR achieved a record non-fare revenue of Rs 249.21 crore, a remarkable 45% increase from Rs 172.16 crore in 2023. The Coach Rehabilitation Workshop (CRWS), Bhopal, maintained 1,408 coaches in 2024, up from 1,368 in 2023. Wagon Repair Shop (WRS), Kota, repaired 6,874 wagons compared to 6,694 in 2023.
A total of 181 km of new tracks were commissioned, including 63 km of new rail lines, 61 km of doubling, 57 km of tripling. 33 new FOBs were constructed to facilitate passenger movement between platforms. 16 ROBs and 44 RUBs/limited-height subways were constructed to ease road crossings over railway tracks. 24 level crossings were eliminated to enhance public safety.
Under the “Accessible India Campaign,” 5 lifts and 8 escalators were installed at railway stations to assist differently-abled passengers, elderly individuals, and children. Over 450 km of track was renewed to enhance safety and track capacity.
WCR generated Rs 435.05 crore through scrap material sales via e-auctions, ensuring optimal resource utilization. WCR utilized a record Rs 10,160 crore for capital expenditure in 2024.
Upgradation of 53 railway stations is underway, including major stations such as Jabalpur, Satna, Bhopal, Bina, Kota and Dakaniya Talav. Upgradation of Bundi and Mandalgarh stations in Kota Division is nearly complete. Work on stations like Damoh, Byohari, Narsinghpur, and Ganjbasoda is progressing rapidly.
WCR received awards for Accounts & Financial Management and Personnel Management from the Ministry of Railways. Efficiency Shield was presented to WCR General Manager, Shobhana Bandopadhyay by the Railway Minister. Individual officers and employees were also honored with prestigious Rail Service Awards.
