NMC started tendering process for the pilot project 
 
Taking a step forward towards the use of sustainable energy, the Transport Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has initiated the contract process for launch of tram-like electric bus service in city. NMC will invite tenders for the pilot project, soon. As per the information, the trolly-e-busses will be first of its kind in the country. The pilot project will be initiated in Nagpur under the funds of Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways. The civic body has started preparing the tender documents.
 
The tender will be floated next month. After the tender process, the civic body will do the agreement with the selected company for the pilot project. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari mentioned about this project many times in his speeches and now finally the project is set for launch soon. The trolly-e-busses will ply on 52 km stretch of inner Ring Road. The trolly-e-busses will run daily on various routes like Katol Naka, MIDC, Hingna T-Point, Chhatrapati Square, Kalamna, Kamptee Road etc. The busses will have three interconnected units with total capacity of 132 seats. The test ride of such busses was done on the Ring Road, recently. As compare to diseal busses fare, these e-busses will be 30% cheaper. The innovative system combines three buses and charges wirelessly within a minute. The fully air-conditioned buses will have amenities such as packaged food, CCTV surveillance, and laptop holders on every seat.
