A massive fire that broke out at a children’s clothing and toy store near Vishal Megamart in Wright Town, caused extensive damage and reducing goods worth lakhs to ashes, early morning on Monday. Fortunately, the fire brigade managed to control the blaze in time and prevented a major mishap. Spokesman of Fire Department of the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) informed that the incident occurred around 5 am when residents of nearby homes noticed smoke emanating from the ‘Little Junction’ shop. The immediately informed the shop owner, Shashikant Soni. Meanwhile, people also informed the fire brigade department about the incident. After receiving the information, the Fire Department pressed as many as three fire tenders to the site.

On reaching the scene, the fire-fighters attempted to extinguish the flames by entering through the back door of the shop. However, by then, the fire had already consumed goods worth more than Rs 10 lakh, including children’s clothing and toys. Likewise, electronic equipment and furniture in the shop were completely destroyed. Little Junction primarily sells essential items for children aged zero to five years, including valuable toys, clothing, prams and more. Luckily, the incident occurred early in the morning when most residents were still asleep, but timely intervention by neighbours helped avert a more significant catastrophe.

Had the fire not been controlled in time, it could have spread to adjacent offices, leading to a major disaster. It may be noted that, this is the second major fire incident in two days. On Sunday, a similar fire broke out in a shop at Tebrewala Market near Karamchand Chowk, destroying goods worth lakhs of rupees. The fire brigade had also rescued four people during that incident.
