The blockbuster movie ‘Pushpa 2’, famous for its iconic dialogue “main jhukega nahi sala” (“I will not bend” in English), has literally helped many struggling single-screen theaters and multiplexes in the city to stand tall. With its record-breaking collections, the Allu Arjun-starrer has minted crores of rupees, giving a new lease of life to all those associated with the film, from producers to exhibitors. Continuing its success run, the movie on Thursday made yet another record of 50-day survival on the silver screens. Released on December 5, the movie achieved this rare feat which the exhibitors and audience have not witnessed for the past many years. With no hit movie to exhibit for the past one year, many exhibitors in the city and elsewhere were facing hardship in attracting audiences. Harish Hiranwar, Manager, Buty Cineplex, told The Hitavada that ‘Pushpa 2’ became the first film post-COVID to run continuously for 50 days.

“The film created a huge craze among fans after it was released and in Nagpur city alone, it recorded 144 shows per day. Even now, fans are watching it and we are getting good occupancy. We are also expecting 100 per cent occupancy on Republic Day on January 26,” Hiranwar said, adding that the film will continue in Smruti and other single screen theatres. Some of the multiplexes here are also showcasing two-three shows every day as they are enjoying the satisfactory number of audience and revenue generated by the film’s remarkable performance. Couple of decades back, movies used to achieve “silver jubilee” and “golden jubilee” tags, marking 25 weeks and 50 weeks of continuous screening, respectively. However, in today’s fast-paced cinematic landscape, exhibitors face intense competition and are often forced to pull movies from theaters after a mere 10-12 days. But the success of Pushpa 2 has defied these trends, demonstrating the film’s broad appeal and its ability to sustain audience interest over an extended period.
