“Padma Shri is surely a big honour for me. It is the recognition to my services which I have been rendering to the people. This award has infused new energy in me to serve the society better,” the doyen of Homoeopaths in the country Dr Vilas Dangre said while sharing his
feelings with ‘The Hitavada’, on Saturday.
Government of India, on the eve of Republic Day, declared Padma Shri for Dr Vilas Dangre for his exemplary services in the field of healthcare.
Described as a doctor who has led a highly disciplined and dedicated life, Dr Dangre was honoured by Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University during the centenary celebrations recognising him as its proud alumnus.
Dr Dangre’s clinic in Surendra Nagar is a known place for everyone.
The clinic was never closed except in 2014 for some months as Dr Dangre had cerebral infarction. He lost eyesight the same year. This incident did not lower his faith towards his work and his confidence. He kept serving people once he regained strength.
Dr Dangre has treated many stalwarts including Shiv Sena chief late Balasaheb Thackeray, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, former MP Vilas Muttemwar, several Sarsanghchalaks of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and many others.
Born on November 4, 1954 at Chandur Bazar in Amravati district of Vidarbha, Vilas Gajanan Dangre earned DHB in Homoeopathy and Biochemic Board, Mumbai in 1975. For the past 50 years, he has been rendering his services to

countless many at his clinic in Surendra Nagar, Nagpur.
The 70-year-old humanitarian homoeopath has dedicated 50 years of his life treating more than one lakh patients at a very nominal cost. Dr Dangre completed his homeopathic education in 1976, during the Emergency period in India. His brother-in-law, Dr Prabhakar Bhoyar, a staunch volunteer of the RSS, was imprisoned by the Government then. Dr Bhoyar himself was an excellent homeopath and ran a clinic near Ayachit Mandir. Dr Dangre practiced at Dr Bhoyar’s clinic and later opened his own clinic in Surendranagar. From the first day, he never linked his profession to money-making, and led a simple life aloof from luxury.
Dr Dangre fulfilled various responsibilities assigned to him by the RSS.
He handled responsibilities in RSS for many years and currently holds the responsibility of being the Chairman of Shri Narkesari Publications that runs the newspaper ‘Tarun Bharat’. Be it social work, family duties, or organisational responsibilities, he never failed in any. His smiling face is his biggest asset. Inspired by lives of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Maa Sharada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda, Dr Dangre tried to bring their values into his own life. His devotion to serving parents, society, and patients led him to choose a life of celibacy. It is estimated that he has cured not thousands but lakhs of patients. Generations of families come to him for diagnosis and treatment, and once they receive his medicine, they led happy and healthy life. Dr Dangre builds a personal relationship with each patient. Some pay him, while others cannot afford to, but he never let this affect him, treating everyone equally.
Dr Dangre mentored many young doctors in his Nagpur clinic, guiding them to success. They all still follow his teachings with gratitude. Patients come to see him from various towns and States, wait in long queues, and return to their hometowns only after meeting him. Fadnavis, Gadkari congratulate Dr Vilas Dangre
