“Maharashtra Government is contemplating restarting the college elections in the State as same is platform for grooming next generation of leadership,” stated Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at a programme of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Fadnavis recalled his own college days and in those times, the students election used to be held and he added that current leadership in politics has emerged from the same mould.
Fadnavis was chief guest at the inauguration of the 53rd Vidarbha region convention of ABVP held at Dr Hedgewar Smruti Mandir, Reshimbagh, on Tuesday.
The Chief Minister was responding to the appeal made to him by Payal Kinate, Vidarbha Prant Mantri, ABVP, in her introductory speech.
Satyanarayan Nuwal, Founder, Solar Group; Ashish Chauhan, Rashtriya Sanghathan Mantri, ABVP; Dr Shrikant Parbat, Adhyaksha, Vidarbha Prant; Virendra Kukreja, President, Reception Committee; Ashish Uttarwar, Secretary, Reception Committee; and Durga Bhoyar, Mantri, Nagpur Mahanagar, shared the stage at the
programme.
Thousands of student members of ABVP converged at Reshimbagh for the three-day event. The atmosphere at the venue was electric as the students were chanting and raising slogans hailing ABVP.
Fadnavis said, he also was a member of ABVP in his college days and shed light on the organisation’s contribution in creating leaders for the country. The biggest contribution of the ABVP is that it makes leaders out of very ordinary students as he shared the memories of his days and remembered participation in Kashmir agitation.
ABVP had taken upon itself to hoist Indian tri-colour at Lal Chowk at Sri Nagar after terrorists in Kashmir didn’t let the national flag to be hoisted there. This initiative resulted in hoisting of tri-colour in Lal Chowk later.
Fadnavis said, “Though a friendly Government is in place at Centre and in State, the role of ABVP is now even more important. There are anti-national forces who are trying to spread anarchy and distrust about Constitutional institutions among citizens, and they
are targeting students at university campus. The ABVP needs to be alert to nip in bud any such threat.”
The programme also featured poster launch of DIPEX convention to be held at College of Engineering, Pune (CoEP) in April, 2025.
At the onset, Virendra Kukreja made the welcoming remarks. Payal Kinate, in her introductory speech, informed about the work done and achievements of ABVP Vidarbha region branch before demanding the resumption of student body election in Maharashtra. Ashish Chauhan also addressed the gathering.
The programme was conducted by Dr Abhay Mudgal, Adhyaksha, Nagpur Mahanagar, while Ashish Uttarwar proposed a vote of thanks.
