Police investigation into the suicide of a 17-year-old girl revealed that she had ordered a specially designed knife from Russia, which arrived in Nagpur on December 6 of last year. The police suspect that the girl had been planning the suicide for several weeks. Prajakta (17), a resident of Chhatrapati Nagar, committed suicide in the early hours of Monday. Dhantoli Police Station officials stated that Prajakta’s mother had taken voluntary retirement after an accident and the family had moved to Nagpur from Mumbai in June of last year. While Prajakta maintained a good circle of friends in Mumbai, she struggled to make friends with students in her new class. At home, Prajakta slept in a separate room and spent much of her time on her mobile phone and playing video games. She was curious about European culture and spent time reading and researching it on-line. Before taking her life, Prajakta had ordered an Alaskan ulu knife from Russia. The parcel arrived at her home on December 6 last year. The Alaskan knife has a curved blade and a handle made from moose antler and is typically used for chopping, mincing and slicing. However, the police have not yet determined why she chose this particular knife for her suicide.

 

 

Prajakta’s suicide note was written in both English and German. This has made it difficult for the police to understand its full meaning. Even the English portion of the note has not provided a clear indication of the exact reason for her death. The police are consulting with German language experts to translate and interpret the note.

 

 

The investigation revealed five cuts on Prajakta’s body and a slit on her throat. She made no sound while inflicting these injuries, as her parents, who were in another room, heard nothing. Her body was found lying on the floor with blood covering an area of approximately 6 x 6 feet around her. The police officials who inspected the scene stated that they had never witnessed such a horrific suicide, even in murder cases.
