The accused have been identified as Pavan Tekam (20) and his girlfriend, Sangeeta (20) (name changed). The deceased has been identified as Punam (name changed).
According to police, Pavan had been romantically involved with Sangeeta for several months.
He was also involved with Punam, a 12th standard Science student. When Punam discovered Pavan’s relationship with Sangeeta in November last year, she confronted him. Pavan reassured her that he would end his relationship with Sangeeta. However, he continued relationship with both girls. When Punam again confronted Pavan and Sangeeta, they allegedly began verbally abusing and harassing her and caused her emotional distress.
On Monday morning, Punam was at home with her younger brother while her parents were at work. She went to a room and hanged herself from a ceiling fan. A neighbour discovered her body and alerted her father, who returned home immediately. Punam was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Gittikhadan police inspected the scene and recovered a suicide note written by Punam. Based on the contents of the note, police have filed a case against Pavan and Sangeeta.
Suicide note reveals emotional turmoil
In her suicide note, Punam described the emotional turmoil she experienced due to the complex relationship. She stated that both Pavan and Sangeeta had tormented her, and that Pavan had exploited her both physically and emotionally. In a message to her parents, Punam wrote, “I love you, Mummy Papa, forever.”
