Late Saturday evening, the discovery of four bodies in a septic tank at a house in Barokhar village under Bargawan police station area of Singrauli district sent shockwaves across the region.
Senior district officials, police officers, and local leaders rushed to the site after the report spread like a jungle fire in the area. After significant efforts, all the four bodies were recovered around 8 pm with the help of a JCB machine. By Saturday night, the identities of three deceased were confirmed, while the fourth was identified on Sunday morning. As per information, neighbours had been complaining of foul smell emitting from the house. Hence, police searched the house and found the bodies. Shockingly, no one was staying in this house. The deceased have been identified Suresh Prajapati, son of house owner Hariprasad Prajapati, a resident of Jayant Sector No. 3, Karan Sahu, his friend from NPCC Colony, Jayant, Jogendra alias Pappu Sahu, Karan’s brother-in-law and Rakesh Kumar Singh, a resident of Dariya, Majhauli Police Station, Sidhi district, currently residing behind Alankar, Jayant.
The bodies were moved to the Trauma Center on Saturday night, and post-mortem examinations were conducted on Sunday morning.
To gather evidence, a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team from Rewa arrived late at night. The team conducted a detailed videographic documentation of the crime scene and continued collecting evidence until early morning. Cyber experts are also involved to probe the involvement of one
or more individuals in this incident. This case of mass murder at the start of the year presents a significant challenge for the police. Newly joined Superintendent of Police Manish Khatri has formed multiple investigation teams. According to police officers, visible head injuries were observed on two victims, suggesting foul play.
The police are investigating the case from every possible angle. Upon receiving information about the incident, Rewa DIG Saket Pandey reached the crime scene late Saturday night. DIG Pandey stated that some objectionable items were recovered from the site and are currently being examined. He noted that the house had minimal belongings and no signs of robbery, prompting the police to broaden their scope of investigation. Authorities remain confident of a breakthrough in the case, as evidence points towards an organised effort. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses. Police sources revealed that two to three individuals have been detained for questioning. Preliminary investigations suggest possible involvement of three to four individuals in the crime. Officials are hopeful of resolving the case soon.
