AIIMS Bhopal concluded its month-long observance of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with a spirited valedictory function on Wednesday. The event began with an awareness rally led by children battling cancer, flagged off by Executive Director Professor (Dr) Madhabananda Kar. Children marched with slogans like ‘AIIMS me ana hain–cancer ko harana hain’ and ‘Bachchho ke cancer ko–Dhishum Dhishum’ inspiring onlookers with their courage. A moving nukkad natak performed by cancer survivors highlighted the message that childhood cancer is beatable with timely treatment and institutional support. AIIMS, Bhopal, in collaboration with organisations like Cankids-Kidscan, continues to provide comprehensive care for pediatric cancer patients.

Paediatric Hematologist Oncologist Dr Narendra Chaudhary shared that the Paediatric Oncology Clinic has registered over 1100 cases, with 150 children completing treatment and 300 currently undergoing therapy. Around 20 patients have crossed the five-year survival mark, considered a benchmark for cure. Head of Pediatrics Prof. (Dr.) Shikha Malik welcomed dignitaries and urged social organisations to host regular recreational events for children undergoing long-term treatment. Deputy Director (Admin) Shri Sandesh Kumar Jain lauded the resilience of young patients, while Prof. Kar congratulated the departments for their collaborative efforts. On Durgashtami, he invoked blessings from Ma Durga for the children’s strength. Prizes were distributed for quizzes and poster competitions. AIIMS also released patient information sheets and treatment guidelines to help nearby doctors manage emergency care under shared protocols, ensuring continuity of treatment closer to home.
