Woman, her two children, sold for Rs 2 lakh on pretext of 2nd marriage in Rajasthan; rescued

In a shocking case of human trafficking, a woman and her two young children were reportedly sold for Rs 2 lakh in Rajasthan by people who had promised her a second marriage. The victim, Punam (name changed), along with her children aged two and four, was rescued by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the city police after a detailed investigation and search operation.
The accused allegedly deceived the woman with the promise of remarriage and then sold her and her children to others, who allegedly threatened them and forced physical abuse. The husband of the victim filed a complaint, and a missing case was registered at Kapil Nagar Police Station.
According to Police Inspector of the AHTU team, the complainant informed that his wife and children were in Rajasthan. After verifying the information, the AHTU team left for Rajasthan on September 25. The team conducted an extensive search and located Punam and her children in Rajakhera, Rajasthan, before bringing them safely back to Nagpur.
The investigation revealed that accused Varsha Rajkumar Rakesh (31), residing at Jagdamba Nagar, Masala, Kapil Nagar, along with Abdesh Dewansingh Thakur (27); Ravi Dewansingh Thakur (35); Shakun Abdesh Thakur (26), residing at Raipura, Agra, Rajasthan; and Laxman Devasingh Thakur (40), of Khurchi Par, Chhapra District, Seoni, MP, deceived Punam by promising her a second marriage. They then sold her and her children to accused Madhav Singh Thakur (60), and Hirasingh Thakur (75), both of Bajna, Rajakheda District, Dholpur, Rajasthan, for Rs 2 lakh. The latter allegedly forced physical relations on her.
Based on the victim’s statement, the AHTU team registered a case at Kapil Nagar Police Station under Sections 64(1), 87, 127(4), 143(2), 61(2), 351(2)(3), and 3(5) of the BNS. All seven accused have been booked, and further investigation is underway.
