A massive demonstration by the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community is set to take place in city today, as thousands of protestors from across Vidarbha and Maharashtra are expected to gather for the OBC Maha Morcha. The rally, organised under the banner of various OBC organisations, aims to oppose the State Government’s resolution issued on September 2, that allows issuing Kunbi caste certificates to Marathas. According to OBC leaders, the order undermines the community’s constitutional reservation rights.
The march will begin at 12 noon from Yeshwant Stadium and proceed towards Samvidhan Square, where a concluding public meeting will be held. OBC leader Vijay Wadettiwar, who has been at the forefront of the agitation, described the event as more than a protest. “The protest is an eruption of public emotion and collective
determination,” said Wadettiwar.
He stated that the Government’s decision was ‘unjust and detrimental’ to the rights of future generations, calling on all OBC members to unite in defence of their rightful share.
In the weeks leading up to the rally, extensive mobilisation efforts were undertaken, with representatives holding meetings across villages, towns, and districts throughout Maharashtra to ensure a large turnout. Wadettiwar urged participants to maintain peace and discipline during the rally, emphasising that the movement reflects the community’s democratic resolve.
Organisers anticipate a turnout of several lakh people, calling it a “yellow storm” set to sweep the city.
Wadettiwar reiterated that the OBC community will not withdraw until the controversial Government resolution is revoked.
