A special police team raided the spot of notorious bookie, arresting four bookies and seized cash of Rs 13,000 and records of Satta bookings from the spot. The arrested have been identified as Kailash Kumhar, a resident of Kumhar Mohalla in Gorakhpur, Sonu Chauhan (35), resident of Jogi Mohalla, Gorakhpur, Narayan Prasad Chaubey (70), resident of Saindham, Gwarighat and Lakhan Thakur (60), resident of Mandwa.
 
Acting on the directives of Superintendent of Police, Sampat Upadhyay (IPS) to take strict action against organized gambling and betting operations, the police conducted a major raid at the betting den of notorious bookie Kailash Kumhar. The operation led to the arrest of Kailash Kumhar along with three other bookies, and the seizure of Rs 13,000 cash, betting slips, a calculator and table and chairs used in the illegal activity. October 10, 2025, police were informed that Kailash Kumhar, a resident of Kumhar Mohalla and a known criminal with over two dozen registered cases, was running a betting operation from the first floor of his house. When police reached the location and peered through a window, they spotted three men inside. Despite repeated orders to open the door, the suspects refused, prompting police to force entry and apprehended the three accused.
 
In the search, police seized cash of Rs 8,500, betting slips, pens and a calculator from Sonu Chauhan, cash of Rs 1,500 and betting materials from Narayan Prasad Chaubey and Rs 3,300 in cash and betting slips from Lakhan Thakur. During interrogation, the accused admitted that they were collecting bets for Kailash Kumhar, who paid them Rs 300 daily. They revealed that Kailash instructed them not to open the door for anyone and to pass money and betting slips through the window. Upon learning that Kailash Kumhar, a listed goon with a pending arrest warrant was hiding on the upper floor, police forcefully open the door and apprehended him.
 
He confessed to previously being involved in the liquor trade before switching to running a betting business from his residence. All accused have been booked under Section 4(A) of the Gambling Act and Section 112(2) of the BNS while further investigation is underway.
