SKIPPER Disha Kasat led from the front with a splendid unbeaten 71 to pilot her team to a thumping six-wicket victory over Mumbai in their Elite Group

 

‘A’ match of the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy at PCA New Cricket Stadium, Ground B, New Chandigarh, on Saturday. Chasing Mumbai’s tally of 123-9, Vidarbha lost opener Riddhi to first ball of the innings, but Disha and Mona Meshram added 47 runs for the second wicket to settle nerves in the dressing room.

 

Mona fell for 18 and Ankita Bhongade made only 5, but Disha took charge and smacked 10 boundaries and two sixes in her 57-ball knock to set up Vidarbha’s victory in company of Latika Inamdar (24). The duo added 58 runs for the fourth wicket. Earlier, Mumbai won the toss but failed to put up a big score. Vidarbha bowlers maintained a tight leash on the scoring rate and also picked up wickets at regular intervals.

 

Arya Gohane, Arti Bahenwal and Mona Meshram picked two wickets each. Disha was adjudged the Player of the Match. This was Vidarbha’s second win in three matches and they now have 8 points in their kitty. Brief scores: Mumbai 123-9 in 20 overs (Sayali Satghare 30; Arya Gohane 2-14, Arti Bahenwal 2-28, Mona Meshram 2-16). Vidarbha 124-4 in 17.4 overs (Disha Kasat 71*, Latika Inamdar 24; Sayali Satghare 2-18). Result: Vidarbha won by 6 wickets.
