Gohalpur police have booked the husband and in-laws in a case of dowry harassment and assault. The accused have been identified as husband Vikas Patel, mother-in-law Shakun Bai Patel, brother-in-law Achal Patel and sister-in-law Deepali Kuswaha. According to police, a 27-year-old woman,

Prasha Patel, resident of Sushila Parisar, Amkhera Road, Gali No. 4, currently residing in Giduraha Kumhi village under Majhgawan police station limits, lodged a written complaint on October 9, 2025, alleging dowry harassment and physical assault by her husband and in-laws. According to the complaint, Prasha married Vikas Patel (30), son of Late Hira Lal Patel, resident of Amkhera Road, Gohalpur, in 2024 following Hindu rituals in the presence of relatives from both families. She stated that soon after the marriage, her husband

Vikas Patel, mother-in-law Shakun Bai Patel, brother-in-law Achal Patel and sister-in-law Deepali Kuswah began taunting her, saying her parents had not given any dowry. The accused repeatedly abused her verbally, and her husband often assaulted her, demanding money and a car as dowry.

Under pressure, her parents gave Rs 2 lakh to her husband, who then purchased a car with the money. However, the harassment continued, with her in-laws demanding Rs 5 lakh more from her parents. When she refused, they threatened to divorce her and arrange another marriage to get more dowry. Eventually, Prasha was thrown out of her matrimonial home. Later, her husband rented another house and stayed with her.

When she questioned him about buying the car in his brother’s name, he argued and left her again on September 24, 2025, demanding Rs 5 lakh from her parental home before he would return. Despite several attempts by her family to reconcile, her in-laws refused to accept her back. When she went to her mother-in-law’s house seeking a resolution, she was turned away and told not to return. Acting on her complaint, Gohalpur police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 85 and 351(3) of BNS and Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act while further investigation is underway.
