Amidst polls, Winter Session of State Legislature to begin on December 8

With the code of conduct for local body polls likely to come in force after Diwali, this year’s Winter Session of State Legislature will begin in its shadow on December 8. A tentative programme of the Winter Session has come according to which, it will end on December 19. Amidst the polls, how business will be conducted remains to be seen. Once code of conduct comes into force after Diwali, the elections will take at least 3 months to complete. The session too will be conducted during the same time.
 
Meanwhile on Tuesday, Divisional Commissioner Vijayalaxmi Bidari convened a review meeting and gave instructions for implementation in a planned and strict manner. Maharashtra will be going to local body polls including Nagar Panchayat, Nagar Parishad, Municipal Corporations, Zilla Parishad and others. Political leaders will be busy in polls strategy, meetings, campaigning etc. A meeting was chaired on Tuesday by Bidari which was attended by District Collector Dr Vipin Itankar, Municipal Corporation Joint Commissioner Vasumana Pant, Superintendent of Police Harsh Poddar, Traffic Police Deputy Commissioner Lohit Matani, Additional Commissioner General Administration Tejusingh Pawar, Public Works Department Executive Engineer Laxmikant Raulkar, along with senior officers from various departments. There was a detailed discussion on the subject-wise accommodation and transport arrangements required for ministers, MLAs and administrative officers coming for the session.
 
Bidari suggested that both these arrangements should be planned and implemented strictly, as well as setting up an updated telephone and internet system. Instructions were given to standardize and properly control food items while providing snacks and meals. Detailed information was given about the police deployment for security arrangements. Instructions were given to take necessary care to maintain smooth transport arrangements. Discussions were also held on topics such as sanitation, water supply and fire fighting arrangements, health and medical services. 
 
Tentative schedule of Winter Session
 
 
The session is allocated a total of 12 days, which includes two holidays (Saturday and Sunday). The actual working days will be 10, during which critical discussions, debates, and legislative activities will be held. The schedule of December 8 includes tabling of various ordinances, presentation of Supplementary demands of 2023-24, condolence proposals. On December 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 there will be Government business. December 13 and 14 will be holidays (Saturday and Sunday). On December 8, the very first day, Ordinances will be tabled, and supplementary demands will be presented. On December 10 and 11, the discussions on Supplementary demands will be held along with the voting. In the second week beginning on December 15, both houses will conduct Government business.
