We all know that all citizen should strictly obey Traffic Rules, as regards their presence on roads.
The studies show that accidents on roads happen due to 90% human error. As per estimate 1,68,000 people died on Indian roads last year, and 3 times that figure were critically injured in road crashes. Unfortunately these figures are increasing every year by at least 10%. Indian road accidents account for 13% of deaths, as compared to world figures. It means statistically that in India 1 person, on average, goes to Chitragupta's table every 3 minutes, with a speed more than the speed of light, although we (Indians) own only about 2-3% of the world's vehicles.
This is mostly due to not wearing a helmet or fastening a seatbelt while driving a two-wheeler or sitting as co-travellers in a car. There is one most disturbing example of Cyrus Mistry, ex- Chairman of Tata Group with Rs 25,000+ crore net worth. Similarly, not wearing helmets by two-wheelers, by both riders, in all accounts for 40% of all deaths of on roads. Cutting short one's life due to accidental death by not adhering to Traffic Rules on roads is like committing suicide by ending one's life and dying rich (courtesy of Sri Sri Ravishankar). India loses about 2.5-2.75% in GDP every year in handling procedures due to accidents/deaths on our roads, as per Government estimates.
Everyone must strictly avoid giving vehicles registered in their name to children who are below 18 years of age. In a recent case in Nagpur, Rs 25,000 + Rs 7,000 penal fine was levied as per extant traffic rules on the parents of an underage son caught by police driving a scooter. In such a case, a 3-month jail provision "without bail" is there for the parent vehicle owner in said rules by the Hon’ble Court.
