Panic erupted near the highly busy Roshanpura Square in Bhopal, adjacent to the Raj Bhavan, on Friday evening when an individual fired four rounds from his rifle. The incident, which occurred in the Arera Hills Police Station area, unfolded after a man, whose car displayed a police sticker, opened fire on the operator and his son at an MP Online outlet when they refused to immediately hand over cash. The accused also brandished the rifle and threatened people while fleeing the scene, spreading terror in the locality.
A large police contingent rushed to the scene and launched an intensive search operation, but the accused remained untraced late into the evening. Police officials stated that the accused has been identified as Jitendra, and efforts are underway to arrest him after registering a case.
According to reports, Gopal Vijayvargiya and his son, Shyam Vijayvargiya (a CA student), run an MP Online outlet at Roshanpura Square, dealing in cash transfers for commission. They informed the police that at around 6 pm on Friday, a man named Jitendra arrived in a car and requested a transfer of Rs 30,000 to a bank account, agreeing to the commission.
Shyam successfully transferred the amount.
When he requested the Rs 30,000 in cash, the accused told him to wait and walked towards his car. Instead of pulling out cash, he retrieved a rifle from the car and fired directly at Shyam. Fortunately, the bullet grazed Shyam’s hand, and he managed to run out to save his life.
Four Rounds Fired, Spreading Terror: The accused fired a second shot, which struck the glass of a jewellery showroom across the road.
Local residents gathered upon hearing the continuous gunshots. To instill fear, the accused fired two more rounds into the air. Brandishing his rifle and threatening people, the accused, Jitendra, drove away from the spot in his car.
Senior police officials immediately arrived at the scene, and the area was cordoned off. CCTV footage was examined, and the car owner was identified as Lokendra Singh Gurjar, a resident of Bhind.
Police teams traced Lokendra, who revealed that his driver, Jitendra, had taken his car and rifle.
DCP Vivek Singh stated that preliminary investigation suggests the driver, Jitendra, who hails from the Chambal region, was in desperate need of cash. After Lokendra Singh refused to give him money, he resorted to this extreme measure. A case has been registered, and the search for the accused is going on.
