In a remarkable display of medical excellence and humanitarian spirit, AIIMS Bhopal successfully facilitated organ donation of a 37-year-old brain-dead patient, giving new life to five individuals. The patient, who had sustained a severe head injury, was declared brain-dead after thorough assessments by a team of four doctors. With the family’s consent, his heart, kidneys, and corneas were donated. The patient’s heart was transplanted into a 41-year-old recipient, marking the third successful heart transplant at AIIMS Bhopal, one kidney was transplanted into a 30-year-old patient at AIIMS Bhopal, while the second was sent to a private Hospital. Two corneas were retrieved by the Ophthalmology Department and will restore vision to two individuals.

For only the second time in the institute’s history, the postmortem was conducted directly in the operation theatre, ensuring timely and legally compliant organ retrieval. This innovative approach highlights AIIMS Bhopal’s commitment to advancing medical practices.
